Abstract

Through the High Atlas and its magnificent landscapes, the road of the thousand casbahs leads you into valleys and lands with an undeniable saharan atmosphere. Built with rammed earth, the casbahs are grouped in a village to form a ksar ( plural: ksour). The casbahs are true architectural jewels, they take the color of their original land changing from ochre to red, which makes them different from one another. The Dades and Todgha gorges offer the finest specimens of this remarkable earthen architecture. In a purely desert setting, the palm grove of Skoura is a true heaven, offering travellers a refuge in the shade of palm trees and olive trees.
