Tangiers was developed in the fourth century B.C by the Cartaginians. At their fall in 146 BC, it was related to Mauretania and became Roman, then linked to the province of Spain and became the capital of Mauretania. During the five centuries that followed, Tangiers knew a succession of dynasties from Morocco, Arabs from Egypt, Tunisia and Spain. It was Moulay Ismail who undertook the siege of Tangiers in 1684. In the late nineteenth century, France, the United Kingdom, Germany and Spain increased diplomatic missions, putting Tangiers in the center of their rivalry. In 1925, the city went under the famous “International Status”. In 1960, the government granted Tangiers a status of a city, like any other city in the Kingdom.Type
