Abstract

Imperial town and ancient capital of one of the great Monarchs of Morocco, Meknes has been classified by the UNESCO as part of the cultural heritage of humanity and it has the most important historical town of the Kingdom. Twenty-two kiometers from the town stands the most outstanding archaeological site of the Kingdom : Volubilis, an ancient Roman city. Moulay Idriss is a small town that reminds of the first muslim city in North Africa. In the Tafilalet, the city of Rissani has the remnants of an ancient crossroads; a transit place for caravaneers from Morocco, Mali and Niger on their way towards Sudan to export metal, fabrics, dates and salt.
