Abstract

Moulay Idriss was enthroned in 1672, at the age of 26. He was familiar with the city of Meknes as he was its governor at the time of his accession to the throne. Under the reign of Moulay Ismail, Morocco witnessed a period of great prosperity, mainly the city of Meknes which he made a great capital for strategic, political and geographic reasons. However, it took him almost twenty five years to re-establish his authority over the country and protect it from external threats.
