Abstract

Edmond Amran El Maleh was born in 1917 in Safi (Morocco), in a Jewish family of Essaouira. Responsible for the Moroccan Communist Party (then illegal), he fought for the national independence of Morocco. El Maleh was a professor of philosophy and then a journalist in Paris. At the beginning of 1980, at the age 63, he began writing a series of novels and short stories. His writings are imbued with a memory that celebrates Jewish and Arab cultural symbiosis of a Morocco which is Arabic, Berber and Jewish. In 1996 ,he received , Morocco's Grand Prix for all his works.
