Edmond Amran El Maleh was born in 1917 in Safi, in a Jewish family of Essaouira. Activist of the first hour of the cause of national independence, he left Morocco in 1965 and settled in Paris. Edmond El Maleh is then a philosophy teacher and journalist. From the early '80s, around the age of 63, he began writing a series of novels and short stories. Among his works include "The Blue Coffee", "A thousand years, one day," "The Return of Abu El Haki", "Aïlen or the night of the story" and "Trail still." In all his works, one detects a Jewish, Arab and Berber memory, which celebrates the cultural symbiosis of an Arabic, Berber and Jewish Morocco. In 1996 he received the Grand Prix of Morocco for his lifetime achievement. Edmond Amran El Maleh belongs to this category of people who are a credit to Moroccan Jewry, for they have never renounced their beliefs despite the pressures and seductions.Type
