Abstract

The archives of the Suez Canal provide a fundamental interest, both from the point of view of the history of technology and engineering (the Suez Canal was the first to have been dug by mechanical means), and that of the naval and economic history. After the inauguration, the King crossed the Canal to go from Suez to the Red Sea. The archive shows the royal yacht that weighs anchor in Port-Said heading to Port-Tewfik. Workers of the earthwork companies hailing the sovereign from the banks of the Canal. In the evening, the royal yacht arrived at Port-Tewfik, in the great Bitter lake. The king, with Adly Pasha and Nessim Pasha, on the deck of the "Mahroussa"- Boats draped in the egyptian colours greeting the king. The decoration of the docks of Port-Tewfik. The "Mahroussa" crosses a trasiteur vessel entering the Canal. The king welcomes the Duke of Abruzzo, in a short visit to Port-Tewfik. Around Mahroussa. The harbour of Port-Tewfik at sunset. At night, the boats and the city light up. The royal yacht leaves the port.
