The popular arts movement started with Reda band in the late fifties under the leadership of Mahmoud Reda , its performances were a true success. It is considered as the first popular arts band. The artist Mahmoud Reda had the idea of creating the first popular arts band in cooperation with the first dancer, the music composer Ali Reda, and the first female dancer Farida Fahmi, after the sudden death of the artist Naima Akef. The band presented the first show at Azbakia theatre in August 1959. The band was composed of 13 dancers ( men), 13 dancers (women), and 13 musicians, most of them were university graduates. Mahmoud Reda was inspired by the desert, the coasts and High Egypt arts to produce the choreography.Type
