Abstract

The Museum of Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil and his wife is an Egyptian museum, located in the district of Zamalek in Cairo.   Founded by Mohammed Mahmoud Khalil, it contains works of great artistic value, including Art Nouveau.   Before his death in 1953, Mahmoud Khalil had bequeathed the museum to his wife who, in turn, bequeathed the museum and the palace to the Egyptian government.   The opening of the palace as a museum was held for the first time in 1962; the collection was sent to the palace of Prince Amr Ibrahim in Zamalek in 1971 and the museum was reopened in 1979. The ground floor, first and second floors are used as galleries. The museum collections include a rare collection of Japanese-style small boxes that occupy the ground floor. The basement houses the administrative departments, the library, a data center and a large conference room. The ground floor of the museum has five rooms, including a rotunda decorated with a bronze statue of the "call to arms" by Rodin. The room also contains large Chinese vases, vases from Japan and a group of Turkish dishes. There is also a tapestry of Belgium dating from the seventeenth century.
