Abstract

Treasures of the past, "the fifties": A group of the most famous Arab and foreign songs in the fifties presented by a group of young singers.The song " ya layali melah" ( Oh ,great nights) by the artist Karem Mahmoud (1922-1995) a singer and a composer who held a privileged position thanks to his beautiful and sharp voice . He has been respected during all his artistic life . His audience nicknamed him as ,the gentle curlew because of his quietness and gentleness. Karem Mahmoud has worked with great artists, musicians and composers in Egypt ( Mohamed al Mougi, Mohamed Soltan , and Riyad Sinbati ) . Among his famous songs " Samra ya Samra", " Wa Nabi ya Jamil " ," Ala Shati Bahri el Hawa " " Amana Alik" , "Anabi" , "Ya Ana Ya el Azal " ... Karem Mahmoud died in January 1995 .
