The conferences organized within the framework of "Thinking the Mediterranean" aim at creating a field of dialogue and exchange. Habib Tawa speaks in this part about the expansion of Islam, the division of the Roman Empire, the ambition of the Romans to the conquest of the Red Sea, the Byzantine Empire, the Ottoman and the Egyptian Empires. He ended his presentation by saying, " of course ,we are led to unite in a wider set three traditional seas which were and remain places of intense exchange".Type
