Abstract

Father Charles de Foucauld was born in 1958 in Strasbourg. He was one of the first French to fall in love with the magnificence of the Algerian Sahara, so he settled in Tamanrasset, in 1905, where he built his hermitage. He wrote a Tuareg- French dictionary and conducted research in meteorology; Father De Foucauld had also begun to build a shelter against attacks for his Tuareg brothers. He was killed during one of these attacks in 1916.
