1999Abstract
In Algeria, olive growing is present in two regions, Sig and Bejaia. 190,000 hectares are devoted to this fruit growing, which represents about 45% of the total area devoted to fruit trees. Almost all the Mediterranean countries are olive oil producers and exporters. The trees, more than a century old in Bejaia, need to be renewed and the manufacturing process of the oil has to be modernized ( packaging, export and distribution). The “Sigoises”, once the pride of Algeria, are overshadowed. The olive growers are forming associations and some export their productions, pending a better management of this sector.Type
