Abstract

The documentary was made in exceptional circumstances (during the Algeria war, in the FLN maquis ), and with elementary means (small format camera). Living among the Mujahideen, René Vautier managed, with his small camera, to capture life in the maquis. The filmmaker supports the Algerian cause and shows people’s commitment with the FLN , a movement they are fully part of. The film denies the colonial propaganda that seeks to portray that war as mere police and law enforcement operations, by showing the bombing of villages and people fleeing their burned land and forests ravaged by Napalm.
