Abstract

Sheikh Larbi Bensari (1867-1964) is the master of the Gharnati and Hawzi musical genres of Tlemcen. In the early twentieth century, he was the most prominent artist of the School of Tlemcen. Initiated by Makchiche, M'naouar and Boudelfa, he knew how to put into practice his amazing memory resources, his musical intelligence and his will, to succeed as one of the best performers in the city. His palette ranged from Hawzi to ‘Arûbi; yet he gave a prominent place to classical music. he left several Noubas among the twenty- four that make up the Zyriab music. This short portrait is a tribute to this great master of Andalusia music
