Tlemcen was the capital of central Maghreb in the eleventh century and from the thirteenth to the sixteenth centuries. It was a strategic place for gold’s route to the Sudan. Coveted by the Merinides Neighbours from Fes, Tlemcen had to Withstand their assaults times, and during the Zianide Abou Said Othmane’s reign, it had to defend itself against one of the longest siege of mankind’s history which lasted eight years from May 6th, 1299 to May 13th, 1307. Tlemcen, faithful to its ancestral traditions, remained a pole of gold’s handicraft until today.Type
