Abstract

"The paradise of eternity, O people of Tlemcen, is found only in your country" said the poet Ibn Khaffaga about the town of Tlemcen. The information on the name origin of the city, long capital of Central Maghreb successive kingdoms, come from oral tradition. No text has supported one or the other of the assumptions, though Tlemcen hosted one of the most famous colleges, as well as some Medersas, powerful levers of the introduction of the written historical evidence.
