Abstract

Before becoming a filmmaker, a script writer and an actor, Mohamed Lakhdar Hamina had a quite chaotic childhood and schooling. He abandoned his studies at the national institute of the cinema in Prague and devoted himself to practical work , mainly shots. In Tunisia, he became operator, during the filming of " Yasmina", " the voice of the people", and Djamal Chandarli's film, " the guns of freedom". He produced dodumentaries on the independence of Algeria in the aftermath of the 1962 Evian agreements, and directed, in Algeria, the national office for film industries ( ONCIC). He produced " Chronicles of the years of embers", a film which won the Palm d'Or at the 1975 Cannes Film Festival.
