Abstract

This documentary is devoted to the wetlands of Oran area, located northwest of Oran. They consist of several mostly salty or brackish lakes and marshes that are supplied with water during the rainy season and dry in summer. The great Sebkha of Oran is an enormous mass of water, around which develops a vegetation adapted to dry climate and to the salty soil of the area. The northern part contains many freshwater lakes, marshes and floodplains. Its north-west fringe and the high steppe plains are characterized by Sebkhas, chotts and Dayas: Lake Telamine, marsh of the Mecta, Dayas of Oum el Ghellaz, Morsli and Bagra, and the salt marshes of Arzew.
