Abstract

This social drama recounts a period of the colonial times. A mother hasn’t heard from her son since they were living in the maquis, and were separated. Her son, Ali, a fighter, was then about to flee the French soldiers who were raking the area, and she had forgotten to buy him cigarettes as she always did. Several years after independence, she still hopes to find her son and asks everyone she meets for a cigarette.
