Abstract

Abu-Al-Hassan Ali Ben Nafi, also known as Zyriab (789-857) was born in Mossol ,in Iraq and died in Cordoue . He studied and developped his talents as a singer and musician in Baghdad; After a short stay in Tunisia ,he settled in Courdoue in 822 in the court of Emir Abd al-Rahman II . He was one of the leading figures in the history of Arab Andalusian music in the ninth century. He introduced the lute (Arabic Lath) in Andalusia after he had added a fifth string to it. It is that lute which spread in the rest of Europe. The journalist Abdelkrim Sekkar lets us discover the Arabic music and its influences on Western music. This episode is about a visit in Amsterdam.
