Abu-Al-Hassan Ali Ben Nafi, also known as Zyriab ( 789- 857) was born in Iraq, he was one of the leading figures in the history of Arab Andalusian music in the ninth century. He introduced the Oud (Arabic Luth) in Andalusia after he had added a fifth string. It is that luth which spread in the rest of Europe.
