Abstract

The great mosque of Algiers was built by the Almoravide Youcef Bin Tachfine in 1097. The minaret dates back to 1324 and was built by the Zianide sultan of Tlemcen, Abou Tachfine. It is built in stone, bricks, tile and wood, on a wooden frame. Ceramic and wood were used for the interior decoration. The great mosque of Algiers, the great mosque of Tlemcen and the great mosque of Nedroma are the only remaining monuments of the Almoravide dynasty.
