Abstract

The green barrier against the desert was one of the most ambitious agro-ecological projects of Algeria in the seventies, launched in the early 1970's in the post-independence euphoria. This " green wall" was to stop the advance of the desert towards the North by creating a true barrier of greenness, which would protect the steppe from the Moroccan border to the Tunisian one.
