Abstract

Souk Ahras is the birthplace of Saint Augustin, Bishop of Hippone. It played an important role in the political and cultural history of Algeria because of its strategic location. It was the crossroads of the Numidian, Roman and Berber civilizations, and was the place of military fortifications, for instance Khemissa, the subject of this report, as well as a major urban centre.
