1999Abstract
The foggara is a type of irrigation, profoundly original, which gives to the Gourara oasis their specificity: it does not exist anywhere else in the Sahara, except in Touat, in the Adrar region. It consists in creating artificial "sources" by digging galleries of very low slope that will join the groundwater. The water seeps along the walls and forms a permanent stream. These galleries are marked in surface by openings for maintenance, and a overview of the region shows the extent of the network created: it is estimated that thousands of kilometers compose all the foggaras in Gourara and Touat.Type
