The city of Kutjevo has always been regarded as the famous wine-growing center, thanks to the quality of vineyards located in Golden Valley, Valis Aure, from the Roman times. Grapevine was introduced to the Danube valley by the Romans. In the Middle Ages to this area came Cistercian monks and in 1232 was founded the Kutjevo Abbey. The monks built cellars, today considered the oldest in the world. In addition to the tradition of viticulture and winemaking, the city of Kutjevo has a nice tourist offer: natural beauty of the landscape, the richness of flora and fauna, the old customs and traditional events, cultural and historical sights. The Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a wine cellar and a castle... The old wine and still jelaously preserved the legend about Baron Franjo Trenk and Empress Maria Terezija are reasons to visit Kutjevo.Type
