Abstract

The historic little town of Novigrad is situated in a narrow bay on the southern side of the Novigrad sea, which is abundant in fish and shellfish. That is the reason why Novigrad fishermen are well known. The town has preserved its Mediterranean architecture, and partially also its system of fortification. In the Middle Ages, the citizens, housed behind their walls, used stones as a defensive weapon. The historical sources tell us that in 1642 there were 100 stones and 8oo iron balls in the defense arsenal. These stones were fired by catapults upon all enemy fleets that tried to endanger the safety of Novigrad. And there is still more to learn about history in the Novigrad port.
