Abstract

Germaine Tillion recalls her commitment in Algeria, a country she has studied for 20 years as an anthropologist. She returned to the Aures in crisis in 1954, for a study mission about civilian’s safety. She analyses the revolt of Setif, the poor economic situation (the phenomenon of destitution), the role of the French army and the tragedy of underdevelopment...as triggers of the independence war.
