Abstract

For 140 years the SNCM ships ply the Mediterranean, from the colonial period to the current crossings of immigrants and tourists doing the back and forth between France and the Maghreb. The example of the "Liberté'' liaising Marseille-Tunis reveals various types of passengers united in love of the Mediterranean: an Israeli researcher, an Algerian-born French, Tunisian emigrants working in France .. Meeting with the Tunisian publisher Mohammed Bettaïef which advocates an economic rapprochement of the two countries, more balanced and free, while in Marseille, the historian Jean Jacques Jordi confirms that the Mediterranean can never be a barrier between its northern and southern shores.
