Abstract

On the Plateau of Lassithi, in Crete, people use a free and clean energy to draw water from wells: the wind. Through wind turbines, often made up of bits and pieces, and the north wind, they can draw water to 10 feet deep and irrigate their land, the most fertile in Crete. When the wind rises, Vassili, Maria, her sister and the constable go on the field, climb on their wind turbines and hoist the sails. These windmills, scattered throughout the gardens, splash the beautiful Mediterranean landscapes of their whiteness.
