The people of Catania offers to St. Agatha, on her feast day, on February 5th, a procession as flamboyant as the volcano which overlooks the city.. This way they thank the patron Saint of the city who would have protected them from an eruption of Etna volcano during the third century. The feast offered to the saint starts on February 3rd: the local authorities, the mayors of the city and the rector of the university go to prison to pay tribute to the martyrType
