Abstract

Morocco is a Muslim country of 18 million inhabitants. The main resources are tourism and remittances from migrants abroad. More than one Moroccan in two is illiterate and unemployment is approaching 20%. Mohammed VI objected to the Muslim theologians on the plight of Moroccan women by proposing a law prohibiting polygamy, by introducing divorce instead of repudiation, as well as the age of marriage for girls to 18 years.
