Abstract

Tourism in Turkey has greatly decreased following to the attacks and the Kurdish problem. So the country decided to focus on spa tourism so as to revive its economy. In Izmir, third city of Turkey, thermal waters have been exploited since antiquity. Heracles, God of water and healing, is revered in the hinterland. A city was built in his honor. Today only a few ruins remain. But the warm-water pools are still a gathering place for Turkish families who come to drink the healing waters.
