Abstract

In Saint Paul de Vence, 20 km from Nice, the foundation Marguerite and Aimé Maeght is opened to the public. The founders wanted to make of this enchanting site a living meeting place. The works of the greatest contemporary artists, Léger, Braque, Chagall, Matisse, Miro, and Giacometti, are exhibited therein. Interviews with Aimé Maeght, art publisher and dealer, who presents the objectives of his project; Alberto Giacometti speaks about his sculptures, and the poet André Verdet, with the Catalan artist Joan Miro at his side, confirms the renewal brought by contemporary art. Back to the opening ceremony of the museum, with a speech by André Malraux, Minister of Culture, Marc Chagall's testimony and the participation of the singer Yves Montand.
