Abstract

A few meters deep in the harbor of Alexandria, lie huge blocks, fragments of what was one of the seven wonders of the world, the lighthouse of Alexandria. In 1994, the construction of a breakwater threatens the underwater remains and an international press campaign was launched. Jean-Yves Empereur, CNRS archaeologist is then responsible for searching the site and taking stock. He talks about this fabulous discovery, on images of underwater exploration and resurgence of colossal granite statues.
