Abstract

The National Orchestra of Barbes was created in 1995, allowing young musicians like Youssef Boukella, Djilali Aichioune and Kamel Hamadi to offer new arrangements of the traditional forms of Algerian popular music (Rai, etc.) and pay a tribute to the "tontons", singers of Barbès during the fifties and sixties, who left a heritage, the songs about exile and separation. Excerpts of rehearsals in an old abandoned factory of Arcueil, recordings, concerts and small recitals by the old in the cafés of Barbès.
