Abstract

The beauty of the Aegean islands hides the extreme precariousness of their situation. The issue, for each of them, was to open outwards, for they couldn't live on their own resources.It is there, in the Dodecanese Islands, near the Turkish coast, that navigation has taken off in antiquity. Today, tourism has stopped the human hemorrhage which used to empty Symi, but at what price?
