Abstract

Founder of the French Film Edition, Jean Benoit- Lévy directed over 300 films for state institutions (public education, hygiene...),during the inter war. Commissioned or purchased by the Department of Agriculture, a number of these films are designed to popularize new knowledge in agriculture and promote modernization of the countryside. The Film Library retains a hundred of these silent short or long films, made between 1925 and 1935, and recently assigned to the INA. The film presented here is about olive growing and the benefits of olive oil; Footage shot in Provence and in the region of Sfax in Tunisia
