Abstract

The ship of the underwater archeology section of the Ministry of Culture and Communication is called "The Archeonaute". It is the only one that currently exists to allow to perform research work, to find traces of prehistoric settlement, between Niolon and Cassis, which existed in the Ice Age 100,000 years ago. Jean Courtin, co-director of underwater archaeological research speaks about it: 15 underwater caves inhabited 100,000 years ago have been visited so far . "We found flints, bones of prehistoric times. (...) Long-term work has been undertaken in two caves in Cassis. "
