Abstract

Dubrovnik was one of the greatest maritime powers of the Mediterranean basin. For five centuries, it was even an independent aristocratic republic, a city-state, the great rival of Venice. In recent years, Dubrovnik shines again and the old Ragusa is one of the most visited cities of the Adriatic coast.
