- This is a diplomatic victory, a symbolic victory, but symbols are important.

- The vote thus took place at noon, the Palestinians were granted the status of full UNESCO member, one of the main UN agencies.

- A major fact: France voted along side with the Arab, African and South American countries.

- A political victory for the Palestinians, recognized as the 195th country to become a UNESCO full member, that was all at Paris’s hour.

- The representative for Palestine will no more have an observer rank, he will be a full ambassador,

- he will speak on the same foot with everyone, Israel couldn’t stop the Palestinians’ great satisfaction.

- In an international and fundamental authority, it now is a country of flesh and bone, I dare say.

- And this is the historical gain.

- The Americans had planned it, they would vote against it and would take reprisals measures should a positive vote be decided upon.

- But the surprise came from France that was initially to refrain from voting.

- France: YES

- There was a European vote, true, not a united one,

- but within the EU many countries adopted the same position as ours.

- I counted 11 of them, so our vote follows a logical strategy that is not isolated.

- We will have to wait for several weeks to know whether the Palestinians were only granted a symbolical victory or whether this vote can change things in the Middle East.
