Abstract

First we discover the isle of St Nicolas, in southern Italy, whose main resource is fishing and especially the swordfish fishery, which lasts only three months a year. Then comes the turn of Lipari where Ulysses is said to have made a stopover. On the occasion of the Sunday procession, the party is in the street. At Messina in Sicily, we can see the Parade of the Giants (Messina, Palermo rival, invented herself a giant ancestor). The cultivation of capers and exploitation of salt are important but the main resource is constituted by the use of pumice, which is sorted and polished. As for the Isle of Capri, the key resource is tourism with its most popular excursion: the cave of Azzura That of Mount Solaro, in chairlift, is also highly rated.
