Abstract

Commissioned or purchased by the French Ministry of Agriculture, a number of films have been aimed at popularizing new agricultural knowledge and promote the modernization of the countryside. The National Audiovisual Institute retains a hundred of these short and long silent films, made ​​between 1925 and 1935. It shows rural life in Egypt in the Luxor area: traditional techniques are used for plowing, drawing water with "chadouf" or "Saguia" or harvest wheat or clover. Farmers also practice quail hunting with nets.
