Abstract

The filmmaker Youssef Chahine is the target of religious authorities in Egypt, who require censorship of his last film "The Immigrant'', where the Prophet Joseph is shown; the approximation is made with the current situation in Algeria. He asked the silent majority to rise up against this fundamentalist iconoclast arbitrariness. He calls for respect of artistic creation and democratization of authoritarian states.
