Abstract

For some 'Beurs' of the new generation, the film stands out as an important media for showing the suburb as it is, and its place in the future. In Marseille, Medhi Charef shot his last film with Philippe Leotard and hopes to reach a wide audience by showing the suburb as he sees it, with its"fears, slums and cellars." Another filmmaker inspired by Marseille, Karim Dridi regrets that the North African community has not come to see his film (Bye bye) which does not depict, in his view, immigrants from a caricatured manner, contrary to some too naive movies. The main actor of the film, Moussa Maaskri shows the apartment in the neighborhood of the Panier, where the film was shot. The actor says with great conviction how this film can change the negative image of immigrants.
