Abstract

The historian Georges Duby said we should date from the eighteenth century the hyphenation where antiquity becomes an object of study and museum, if one takes as reference the work of Abbe Winckelmann, discoverer of Herculaneum ... Northern Europe will then start looting the excavation sites, to enrich its museums, both the British Museum or the Louvre. G. Duby and his colleagues show how the legacy and the taste of Antiques have shaped the architecture, even in England, and how the Arabs or the Church allowed the transmission of knowledge and culture of ancient Greece.
