Abstract

This documentary film features the importance and status of the arabic calligraphy, the care it was given by Islam, The focus on its decoration and the prophet’s attention to calligraphers. The prophet also urged women to learn the art of calligraphy. The episode focuses also on the role of both Islam and the Islamic conquests in the spread of the Arabic language and its calligraphy, the replacement of the calligraphy of the conquered nations with the Arabic calligraphy such as the Persian, Ottoman and Seljuk’s calligraphy. The episode deals also with trade and its role in the transfer of the Arabic calligraphy from the Arabic Peninsula to Iraq. The episode mentions also a number of calligraphers and refers to the attention given by Caliphs and Sultans, in various periods, to the calligraphy and its Arabic and Islamic decorations.
