Amman, the ancient and modern capital of Jordan is one of the cities which has been inhabited for centuries. Thanks to science, fossils have shown the presence of archaeological sites dating back to the stone age.( about 7 thousand years B.C) Amman was the capital of the Ummayads, they called it " Rhabbat Ammon". Under the reign of Ptolemy Viladelphos (3rd century B.C ), it became Philadelphia. When Philadelphia was colonized by the Alcelinos and Nabateans , it became part of the “Decapolis”; the ten cities which made a fragile alliance under the Roman rule. In 1878, the Ottomans re-settled some migrants in Amman. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the neighboring city of Salt was an important administrative center until the reign of the Prince Abdullah Ben Hussein who built a state in the East of Jordan and took Amman as the capital for modern Jordan.Type
