Abstract

This episode is about one of the imposing castles in Jordan, the castle of Aqaba, dating back to the Mamluk period ( 1501-1517), which was rebuilt during the Ottoman period in 1528. During the First World War, the British battleships affected some parts of the castle. The program provides details on the castle, the central areas, the chambers and the towers which were used for military surveillance. The castle was also used as a resting place for pilgrims from Egypt and Africa , and during the Arab war before capitulation in 1917. It has undergone several stages of restoration; we can see details of the architectural model of the castle, the entries and upper floors. It is surmounted by a circular dome and is home to the ancient mosque of Aqaba.
